Where is poverty? 89% of Kosovars are able to take a week off a year.

A survey of the Regional Co-operation Council, updated in the Balkan Barometer 2021, showed that 39% of households in Albania did not economically afford a week's rest annually (see the attached sign). This percentage was higher than the regional average (3.8%), but Northern Macedonia and Montenegro had a higher percentage of the population, which confirmed that it could not take annual holidays by 45 and 50%, respectively.

Kosovo was the only one in the region that had the lowest percentage of households, only 11% of them that could not afford a week's rest annually.

In the Balkans, the overwhelming majority of poll participants do not know whether they will go on vacation (69%), slightly less than a third of citizens (31%) have already planned their trip for 2021. About 10% are planning to travel in nature or adventure travel, 9% of them plan to visit new cities, and 6% to visit their family and friends.

The largest number of participants who are not sure if they will go on vacation during 2021 are in Serbia (8.8%), then Albania by 84%, while on the other side of the medal remains Kosovo, which has registered the lowest number of respondents who do not know if they will go on vacation this year, reaching 30% of its entire population.

Kosovo also has the largest percentage of individuals planning to visit new towns (30%) and citizens planning to make an adventure trip (20%), while respondents from Montenegro (13%) plan to visit their friends and family in 2021.

The region continues to become increasingly open to arrivals by the Western Balkan community, with 42% of respondents now supporting domestic migration from another regional economy.

This year's poll also sees a 5-point drop in the rank of respondents who are hostile (10%). In general, since 2016, the number of survey participants that support regional arrivals has increased by 14 points and represents a promising development in regional migration.

Albania is the region's most hospitable economy, with 49% of respondents supporting migration coming from within the region. Meanwhile, Montenegro registers a 22-point drop in the number of participants that are open for new arrivals, thus dancing from the region's most hospitable economy to the region's most uncommunicative one -- representing 36% of the population, from 58% to 2019.

Serbia and Kosovo have the largest concentration of neutral respondents in the Western Balkans, both with 46%. Although a slight preference for tourists from other parts of the world has been observed, there is a growing percentage of citizens of the region who support more visitors from within the region. /montor. al
