A police officer who defended The Capitol during the January 6th attacks by extremist supporters of former US President Donald Trump has become the third officer to commit suicide, the US capital's Metropolitan police reported on Monday.
Officer Gunther Hasida, who was part of the emergency response team within the Special Forces Department, was found dead at his home on 29 July, the American authorities announced.
“We are mourning as a department, and our prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends of Officer Hasida”, said police spokeswoman Brianna Burch.
The policeman who committed suicide left behind his wife, three children, and his sister, according to an open-air fund - collection campaign, writes The Guardian, broadcast The Express.
Hasida's death is the third prominent case of suicide within law enforcement forces linked to the riots of January 6th, when a violent group of former President Trump supporters joined the most important buildings of American institutions.
The group was trying to prevent the Certificate of victory that Joe Biden in last year's presidential election, but their bid failed because Congress approved his victory next morning.
