The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that four Kosovo citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan.
MPJD through a communique for the media has said they have been in direct contact with Kosovo citizens there.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspore (MPJD) suggested that the four citizens of Kosovo with whom it has been in direct contact and provided assistance after the escalation of the situation in Afghanistan have been evacuated. Since the escalation of the situation there, the MPD has been committed to identifying and helping Kosovo citizens with the goal of leaving Afghanistan as soon as possible. MPJD continues to keep the emergency line open with +383 45 492 316, and is available to offer help to all new cases that can eventually be announced in the following period”, said the communiqué.
Kosovo institutions have been declared to be making adequate logistical and technical preparations, but also social and security preparations for housing and protection of citizens from Afghanistan.
The United States has asked Kosovo to accept a portion of Afghan workers who have worked with foreign forces, but now feel insecure as the country is taken over by the Taliban.
So far, it is still not known how many Afghans will stay in Kosovo until they complete American visa procedures.
The Kosovo government has approved the Interior Ministry's request for providing temporary and immediate protection to persons endangered by internal conflict in Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Albin Kurti said Tuesday that the details of housing of Afghanistan's citizens in Kosovo are being discussed with the United States.
The team from Kosovo, comprised of Interior Minister Jalal Svechla and Prime Minister's cabinet chief Luan Dalipi, Kurti said, are in discussions with American partners and allies concerning the issue of Afghan housing.
Kosovo has the US main ally and irreplaceable strategic partner. The issue of refugee housing from Afghanistan, in addition to the aspect of humanism on our part, also has the dimension of alliance and partnership with the US. The U.S. has supported and supported us on a continuous basis and this is only a small part of our contribution against the help and great support for our people”, Kurti said.
