As never before, the number of infections this month has been recorded in the record 36 thousand and 461 cases, making it August as the most infectious period since the release of the COVID 19 pandemic in mid-March of last year.
The high number of infections also increased deaths. 197 people have lost their lives as a result of COVID-19 alone during August 20th through August 31st.
But despite the increase in infection this month, what is seen is the lowest number of victims compared to the previous months when the lowest number of infections and more victims were recorded. In August of more than 360,000 infected deaths were recorded as a result of COVID-19.
In November 2020, close to 20,000 infections were recorded at 335 deaths, and by December 2020, up to 12,000 deaths were 319 as a result of COVID-19.
In March of this year, about 21,000 infections and 273 deaths were recorded, while in April of this year there were close to 14,000 new cases and 289 victims.
Health experts say vaccinating a large portion of the elderly people in years has also prevented the increase in the number of victims compared to preliminary periods.
During August the number of tests has increased. The National Institute of Public Health in Kosovo has conducted 247 thousand and 175 testings for COVID-19, and the report between tests and new cases during August is 14.7 percent positive.
Currently, there are 26 thousand and 886 active cases from 539 as of one August. Meanwhile, cures during the August month have registered 10,000 people.
The spread of the virus has also increased loads in hospitals.
On August 1st in Kosovo hospitals and clinics, 102 patients infected with COVID-19 of them 59 with oxygen therapy and two in serious condition.
But that number is quite different on August 31st. According to the Clinical Hospital Service in Kosovo hospitals and clinics, between 1,000 and 120 patients with COVID-19 of these 1,000 and 60 with oxygen therapy and 60 in serious health.
Kosovo is continuing to vaccinate the population, and during August, the number of vaccines has increased significantly.
Authorities say their goal is to vaccinate 60 percent of the 1 million and 260 thousand citizens of over 18.
On August 3rd in Kosovo were vaccinated 311 thousand 814 citizens, of whom 155 thousand and 907 with two doses of vaccine.
As of August 31st, 553 thousand citizens have been vaccinated, with 282 thousand double doses of vaccines.
According to data processed by the Voice of America currently in Kosovo, 43.8 percent of the population over 18 has been vaccinated, of which 22.3 percent with two doses of vaccine.
