Still not reported damage or victim.
The announcement came after the sirens were heard in northern Israel warning of a possible missile attack by Lebanon.
Two rockets fell within Israeli territory, the army said, adding that it fired on Lebanon.
The medium “Kanal 12” reported that a rocket exploded in an open area and another was seized by Israel's defence system, which is known as the Iron Cup.
A Lebanese Army official said the military had no comment and that it is pending investigations.
Other Lebanese security officials did not respond to The Associated Press.
However, several witnesses in the border area in southern Lebanon said two rockets fell into an Israeli community across the border, followed by numerous Israeli artillery missiles.
Israeli shells fell into an area between the Lebanese villages of Maryayoun and Khaam, they said, adding that it was not clear where the missiles were issued.
There have been several similar incidents in recent months.
The missile attack is believed by Israeli authorities to have been launched by the Lebanese-based Palestinian groups rather than the Hezbollah group.
