According to foreign media, dozens of people -- some with immigration documents -- lined up under the arms of Afghan security guards as the Apache helicopters flew into the air today at the airport, while waiting to board flights abroad, fearing bloody revenge by Islamists.
An American official later confirmed that human remains were found on the landing wheels of a plane that made an emergency landing after declaring a state of emergency in the air.
As it is further reported, there are at least 56,000 people in need of evacuation from Afghanistan including about 22,000 flying with special American immigration visas, 4,000 British nationals, 10,000 refugees Germany has said would accept and 20,000 headed for Canada.
In reality, that number will likely be much higher after diplomatic staffs are taken into account from dozens of countries that had relations with Afghanistan's previous government.
Meanwhile, it is said that at least 6,000 people have already managed to leave the country with evacuation flights that began on Sunday, with a dozen leaving today -- most of them flying to neighboring Middle Eastern countries before continuing their trips west.
