The 36-year-old suspect told police that he was angry when he saw some women saying “were happy and wanted to kill, according to local media reports.
One student is said to be in more serious condition, while the other nine have received easier injuries, the BBC writes.
Such crimes are rare in Japan, and Tokyo is under strict security at the time of the Olympic Games.
The suspect man attacked the passengers on the train near the Seijogakuen station about 20 and 40 minutes Friday.
The train was urgently stopped by drivers, as they heard noise inside the cars.
According to investigators, the suspect jumped onto the track and fled the scene, but later entered a shop and told the staff that he is the suspect of the incident reported in the media and that he is tired of leaving.
