Details have been offered to the German War Grave Care Commission
“We know about 987 fallen Wehrmacht soldiers in today's Kosovo area. The agreement on the issue of war graves between the two sides has not yet been signed. When we can work in Kosovo and exhumation the dead, we will build a memorial monument there. We will surely find a suitable location for the grave of war in consultation with local authorities”, the commission's statement for the Kosovo Clan said.
The graves of two Hitler-era Armed Forces soldiers, known as Wehrmacht, were discovered in Podujevo a few weeks ago.
They were found on the property of the Raj family of this village. The leaders of the tribe in question, since 1944, had buried Germans killed in combat with Partisans on their property.
For 77 years the laptop family kept the event secret until July 2021.
The fallen were identified by means of metal plates with serial numbers, skull bones, or hair combs. Excavations were made in co-operation between local, German authorities and their contingent in KFOR.
If we find these kinds of plaques or other items like marriage rings that provide clues to the identity of the dead, we and the Federal Archives in Berlin will try to identify them in order to inform their relatives”, it is said among other things in the Volksbund statement.
