I assume that parts of the Afghan government are already out of the country and that the top priority for Germany was the safety of our citizens, of our staff at our Embassy, and equally of the people we have worked with in Afghanistan in the last years”, said Maas, the AP.
The minister continued to declare that some persons would be evacuated and German military planes would fly to Kabul at night to support that operation.
“We are in close contact with the United States and other international partners and agreed that we will provide mutual support with the evacuation measures in the following days,” said Maas, adding “we have helped others and we will also accept their help”.
German Defence Minister confirmed on Sunday that the first A400M military transport aircraft would be launched on Sunday evening with rapid response forces on board to secure the operation.
