CIA Director William Burns met with Taliban leader Abdul Ghana Baradar in town on Monday, according to the Washington Post.
That comes after the group warned it would have “consequences” if American troops remain in place even after August 31st, a deadline the American President Biden hopes to hold, Periscope reports.
Meanwhile, the G7 will meet Tuesday to discuss its response to the Afghan crisis, including whether it will recognise the Taliban.
Led by Boris Johnson, the British prime minister, the meeting will focus on evacuation efforts in Kabul and the long-term plan once the American troops are completely removed.
The British prime minister is expected to ask Beden to consider extending the deadline for the withdrawal of American troops beyond August 31st so that more people could leave the country.
