The battle with fires follows in the Mediterranean, with France and Spain turning into new war fronts. Thousands have been evacuated since Monday in southeastern France to escape the rapidly advancing flames. The most affected coastal region of Var, especially around the villages of Grimaud and La Mãole, near Saint Tropez.
About 750 firefighters and planes are trying to extinguish the flames in very difficult conditions, with clean temperatures and strong winds. Nearly 5,000 hectares of forest have been burned, and about 100 dwellings have been damaged.
It's estimated that the situation with the fires in Spain is catastrophic. Firefighters are fighting the biggest flames of the year for the fourth day in a row, while the wind is making it difficult.
Thousands have been evacuated from their dwellings to protect themselves from forest fires that have destroyed at least 15 thousand hectares of land since Saturday, driven by the extreme heat wave.
The fire that started in Navalacruz, in the Avila region, a rural area 120km from Madrid, when a vehicle exploded on a highway on Saturday, forcing the evacuation of eight villages. About 1,000 firefighters, including 140 military personnel, along with aircraft and helicopters, have been mobilised to extinguish the flames.
