The international community must unite to ensure that Afghanistan is never used again as a platform or shelter for terrorist organisations,” said Guterres at an extraordinary session of the UN Security Council gathered today because of the crisis in Afghanistan.
He also called on the Security Council and the entire international community to work and act together and use all available means to eliminate the global terrorist threat in Afghanistan and ensure respect for fundamental human rights in that country.
Guterres also called on the <x0thibans and all sides to respect and protect the international humanitarian law and the rights and freedoms of all people” and said it was “particularly concerned about reports of increased human rights violations of Afghan women and girls”.
“We are receiving frightening information about serious human rights violations across the country,” said Secretary General from UN headquarters in New York.
