The Council of Parents in Kosovo has called on the government to decide on vaccinating teenage children to ensure a safe return to schools from September.
Such a demand has come after the last few days, in Kosovo the number of people infected with coronarys has increased, especially in children.
Health authorities on Thursday have recorded 1,039 cases of infection, following the testing of 6,784 people. In the last three days (10,11 and 12 August), Kosovo has infected over 300 people aged 10 to 19.
According to Statistics Agency data, Kosovo has over 300,000 students continuing primary and secondary schooling.
Another problem Kosovo is facing is rejecting a large percentage of teachers to vaccinate. So far, Kosovo has not imposed vaccination of educational personnel, while by 6 August, 50% of teachers have been vaccinated.
The Kosovo government has approved new measures to fight pandemic on Thursday.
Among the measures, evidence of inoculation against this virus is included to enter nightclubs, discotheques, weddings, and other family parties of over 100, from August 20 to September 10.
Ymret Resitaj, chairman of the Council of Parents of Kosovo, told Radio Free Europe, that vaccination of children, especially of teachers, is a condition for their return to school facilities and at normal school time.
“From Kosovo institutions, we demand that they be supplied with vaccines even for children under the age of 18 and start their vaccine process. Parents have consistently been in defense of the children's interest, absolutely, so we expect concrete action by the Government of Kosovo”, Resiti said.
Last year, students from the first grade to the fifth grade have held classes in two groups, for no more than two hours, while other classes learned together: online and in attendance at school.
Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Arberije Nagavci has said the ministry is taking all measures for the new school year to begin with physical presence in schools”. According to her, studies have shown that online and combined learning have not shown the right results.
Even some parents value vaculation under the age of 18.
Sania from Pristina is a mother of three. One of them is in high school. She says she'll feel safer if her son gets vaccinated.
“I see the necessity of vaccinating children”, she says.
Regarding child vaccine, the Health Ministry says “will carefully convey the recommendations of the World Health Organization and other telecommunications organisations before final decisions are made. ”
“internationally, Pfizer vaccine has been approved for persons over 12. Kosovo follows practices based on recommendations according to health evidence and has also discussed options for vaccinating people under 18, or even younger, if they have chronic diseases, until for the next AstraZeneca vaccine, the vaccine of people over 18 is recommended” is said in a response to REL from the Health Ministry.
As the World Health Organization reports, the Organisation's Strategic Consultative Group of Experts has concluded that Pfizer/BionTech vaccine is suitable for use by people aged 12 and older.
The “Children between the ages of 12 and 15 who are at high risk can be offered this vaccine along with other priority vaccine groups”, said a publication of this organisation made on 14 July.
Also, on July 2nd, WHO recommended that PCR tests or antigen tests be made in schools to avoid online lessons, in case of a new wave of the coronary pandemic.
The organisation believes that closing schools should be the final solution in case of an outbreak in the number of infected people or if the spread of infection cannot be controlled by any other measure.
The start of a new school year with full physical presence is an undisputed priority, says Rinor Qehaja, director at the Institute for Education Studies “EdGard”, adding that students can no longer lose a moment in school.
” Teaching teachers is important not only for their health but also for this return to schools to happen. The students' vaccine on the other side represents the decision that should come from health institutions and only as recommendation from the World Health Organisation (OBSH)”, he said.
Many countries have begun vaccinating children
Some of the countries in the region and the world have already begun vaccinating teenagers. Northern Macedonia and Serbia have started vaccinating children from the age of 12 onward.
Even some of the European Union countries have launched the teenage communication process in June. Romania and Italy have been the first countries in the EU to have started with this process followed by Germany and Poland.
The European Commission has approved in June the use of Pfizer vaccine/ B NTech for children 12 years old and older.
The United States and Canada have earlier approved the use of this vaccine in 12 and older children.
Infectian Sali Ahmeti considers Kosovo should not be excluded from this process, from European Union countries. Studies have already shown, he says, that vaccinating children against coronarys has no side effects.
I don't see any side action that connects with these controversial theory vaccines. Each country has vaccine policies in relation to conditions, circumstances, population structure. As for the side effects of the vaccine, in the quality of the infection, I don't see any links to the new age”, Ahmeti said.
The Health Ministry has launched a sensationalisation campaign to encourage citizens to respond to the communication campaign over the age of 18.
On Thursday, authorities have announced that the number of people vaccinated with both doses of vaccines has gone to 183,240, while the total number of vaccines given is 539,752. / REL
