Estonia has said it will not issue a Russian diplomat's visa in response to the expulsion of a Estonian diplomat from Russia last month.
Estonia's Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday that it hopes that “regardless of its asymmetric action, the Russian Federation will refrain from the further crossing of the” situation, writes Free Europe.
Talin expelled a Russian diplomat in July after Russia briefly banned the Estonian consul in St Petersburg, Mart Latte, who was later declared persona non grata under suspicion of obtaining classified documents.
Estonia had singled out the case as illegal and provocative.
Russia responded to the expulsion of its diplomat from Estonia with the expulsion of an embassy worker in Estonia in early August.
Russia has been involved in diplomatic revenge actions similar to other European states in recent months.
