Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has considered forest fires a global threat, like COVID's pandemic.
Erdogan said the whole world is facing this challenge, comparing it to a “terrorist threat”. He said 187 fires have erupted in Turkey in the last eight days, 15 of which continue to be active.
“Around 51 helicopters and 20 planes are engaged in fire extinguishing operations. Turkish intelligence personnel and police are investigating the causes.
President Azerbaijan has told me that his country will send another plane to Turkey to support its ongoing battle against forest fires in its southern provinces”, he said.
According to official figures, at least eight people have lost their lives since the beginning of fires in southern and southwest Turkey last Wednesday.
