According to the Carabinieri, Italian military police, a woman and her grandson were trying to extinguish the flames on their olive tree, the AP writes, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
A total of 57 fires hit Calabria yesterday. Eleven were dangerously near small towns, with San Lorenzo in their midst.
Massive fires are also occurring throughout Turkey, Greece and Russia.
