“I emphasise that there are no climate changes, it's a climate crisis. And we as a state are part of it”, he said at a media conference in Athens.
Forest fires have been driven by a 10-day heat wave that has left this country completely dry, he has said, calling for the environmental issue to become a national priority.
Mitsotakis has stressed that fires are not a Greek problem, but a Mediterranean problem and the whole world.
“Look at what is happening in Italy and other states”, he said.
The Greek prime minister has indicated that at the upcoming summit of Mediterranean countries he will mention the possibility of fighting fires.
He has also thanked 24 states that have helped eliminate them.
Mitsotakis has said that fire has also been behind the situation with fires.
However, there is still no concrete data, he has said, adding that he trusts the ongoing investigations.
About 20 people have been arrested under suspicion of intentional fire in Greece in the last 10 days, but the link between individuals has not been identified.
Officials have said Thursday that the rains of the night before have significantly helped against the fires.
In the last two weeks alone, forest fires in Greece have ashes more than 100,000 hectares of land.
