Fellow villagers who have come to Kosovo this summer, according to research done by nongovernmental organisations, have spent about 500m euros. According to experts who have done these research, it is said that the money poured out is an infusion for Kosovo's economy, especially under pandemic circumstances, reports Radio Kosova.

Kosovo this year has scored record numbers of fellow countrymen who have visited the country. According to Organisation “Germin”, their expenses this season have been around 500m euros.

Freedom Krasniqi, from the non-governmental organisation “Germin”, this organisation that deals mainly with diaspora issues, says the expenses of fellow countrymen during the summer season amount to 500m euros. While according to Krasniqi, the number of fellow countrymen who entered Kosovo this summer season is about 1 million.

We consider that the diaspora visits during the summer of this year have had an extraordinary impact on Kosovo's economy. According to an assessment we have made, but also by other organisations doing such tests, at best, the figure that has been drawn in Kosovo could amount to up to 500m euros.

This high figure is also infusion for Kosovo's economy, especially in pandemic circumstances when some businesses had registered major losses due to provisional closures from COVID-19” measures, Krasniqi says.

Kosovo Police data shows that in June the number of people entering via road transport has been around 1 million and 900 thousand, in July, has increased to 1 million and 33 thousand. However, only within 15 days of August in Kosovo have some 1 million and 409 thousand people entered.

At Pristina International Airport “Adem Jashari” the number of travelers in July was over 340 thousand, compared to the same period of 2020, there has been an increase of 60 thousand and 433 travelers.

In 15 days of August, 738 flights with about 92 thousand travelers have been realised.

In addition to spending the Kosovo diaspora makes during the summer season, Kosovo annually accepts remittances. Last year alone, funding from the diaspora has reached the value of 980.1m euros.
