Ramstein is one of the largest bases of the American Army outside the United States, which has already been transformed into a temporary Transit centre, until the shift of all Afghans to the United States.
“This is the largest and most dangerous air operation of evacuation in history”, American President Joe Biden said on Friday. American troops hope to evacuate between 5,000 and 9,000 people a day, but it seems almost at the limit of the impossible, while the deadline for displacement of all Afghans is August 31st.
According to CNN, referring to Brigadier General Josh Olson, in the deal between Germany and the US, the evacuees will stay from 48-72 hours at Ramstein air base and no more. Then, part of them will be displaced to different states of the world, as Albania has been offered, for their temporary maintenance, while the final destination will be the US.
Still unclear remains the number of Afghans to be temporarily accommodated in Albania, when initially reported about 300 people, while then Prime Minister Edi Rama, in some statements to international media, increased that number to 3000.
Enigma also remains because of the fact that agreements the United States of America has made with various states to accommodate Afghans have been kept secret.
Ramstein's military base has a capacity of 5,000 people, but with an intensity of flights every 90 minutes, this capacity will be exceeded, so it is thought to expand with some other umbrellas that could hold another 2,500.
According to basic authorities, people will stay separate according to gender. Mothers and children are placed inside aircraft barns, and men and boys in tents outside. There's been a middle corridor where family members can meet.
All are subject to rapid checkups in their luggage, carrying water and food, as it becomes the temperature measure for COVIDD-19. /A2
