US Capitol police said they are negotiating with the driver of a suspicious vehicle near the Library of Congress, in front of the Capitol building and the Supreme Court.
The driver's motives remain unknown, reports the BBC. Several buildings near the Capitol are learned to be evacuated.
The driver parked the vehicle and told police employees that there was a bomb while holding an object in his hand, which looked like a bomb remote, the captain of the Capitol police said at a press conference.
“Negotiators are working hard to find a peaceful solution,” he said. Several staff members at Capitol Hill were initially told to stay in the country and take refuge in the office.
Law enforcement currently does not confirm this latest information. Citizens are required to avoid the area around the Library of Congress, which faces Congress in front of a street and park.
The Capitol area is being guarded after the deadly attack on January 6th by Donald Trump supporters.
On April 2, one police officer was killed and another injured when a young man threw his car into a road block defending the entrance before being shot to death by police.
