US President Joe Biden said he would respect the agreed deadline, so the US should withdraw all its troops from Afghanistan by Tuesday.

An American official told Reuters on Saturday that fewer than a thousand American troops remained at the airport, up from 5,800 a few days ago.
The last remaining British troops left Kabul last night. They landed in the United Kingdom around 22:25, ending their 20-year stay in Afghanistan.

While the airport is chaotic, the rest of Kabul is relatively calm. The Taliban have asked residents to surrender their weapons, their spokesman said.
