In a statement to the French press, Borrell expressed regret at the security measures the United States imposed at the airport in Kabul because this, according to him, hinders evacuation, the Express states.
The US administration has set August 31st as the date for its final withdrawal from Afghanistan and plans to evacuate more than 30,000 Afghan Americans and civilians.
Unable to create “Matematicly... As far as I know, Americans did not announce they would stay after that August 31st. But they could change their mind”, Borel said.
“Controli and US security measures are very strong. We made complaints. We asked them to show more flexibility. We cannot evacuate our associates”, the head of European diplomacy said.
