Borrell: Agreement would solve Kosovo's legal representation

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said the final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia would, among other things, resolve the issue of Kosovo's legal representation in different regional initiatives. Borrell made comments in a written answer to the question of European Parliament deputies, which refers to, as stated in the heading of the question, “lack of coherence in Kosovo's legal representation”.
The achievement of a legally binding comprehensive agreement for normalisation of relations is the best basis for overcoming the issue of [Kosovo's] legal representation”, Borrell said.
He confirmed that Kosovo authorities are interested in Kosovo being no longer represented by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) at regional forums.
“The EU is willing to address this issue, including through dialogue on the normalisation of Kosovo-Serbia relations, given that organisations like CEFTA [the Central European Trade Agreement] have their own structures, procedures and decision-making bodies, which also include other parties”, Borrell said.
He recalled that after the 2012 agreement reached in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Kosovo participates and speaks for itself at regional forums”, provided in its name it imposes an insertion.
Funsota means: “This appointment is without prejudice over views regarding [Kosovo's] status and is in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the opinion of the International Court of Justice on Kosovo Declaration of Independence”.
Kosovo and Serbia have been negotiating the normalisation of relations since 2011.
A new meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has been warned for September.
