The president of the United States, Joe Biden, told Israeli Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett that in his report with Iran, he has put <x0-diplomacy in the first place” in trying to curb Iran's nuclear programme, but if negotiations fail, he would be prepared to address other options.
Beden and Bennett held their first meeting at the White House.
The meeting was scheduled for Thursday (26 August), but it was postponed for Friday due to the situation in Kabul, Afghanistan, and the suicide attack by militants from the extremist Islamic State group that left more than 100 people, including 13 Americans, dead.
Beden said he and Bennett discussed “threats from Iran and commitments to ensure that Iran never develop a nuclear weapon”.
We are putting diplomacy first and we will see where it will lead us. But if diplomacy fails, we are ready to address other options”, Biden added, without offering specifics as to what other options can predict.
While the Israeli prime minister said he feels the “is happy until he hears the words that Iran will never be able to possess nuclear weapons”.
“You stressed that you will try the path of diplomacy, but there are other possibilities if this does not work”, he added.
