US President Joe Biden has signed an executive order envisioning that half of the new cars sold in the United States are electric until 2030.
Biden has announced this decision 5 August by the White House, along with the executive chiefs of major US car producers.
Both American and foreign producers have said that meeting that goal, which is not binding, requires sharing government funds worth billions of dollars.
According to them, such incentives as consumer subsidies, battery refueling networks and research and development investments should be included.
This decision is part of Beden's plan to fight climate change, in this case through target of emissions from cars and trucks.
He has also made this decision to compete with China and other states that have invested in electric vehicles.
Biden has called these kinds of cars the future of the automotive industry.
“will be electric and there will be no going back. The question is whether we're going to lead or stay back”, he said.
The Benden administration has also proposed standard emissions for new vehicles, which are believed to reduce carbon emissions by 2026, starting with new models of cars to be introduced in 1923. / REL
