In a statement to the media from the White House, US President Joe Biden said he and his national security team were “monitoring closely” the situation on the ground in Afghanistan, even though Biden did not give a warning to the camera on the issue for several days.
Beden acknowledged that the world is now looking at a new “rapid cops of the Afghan government”, but he insisted that the American mission to Afghanistan “was not supposed to be the nation's construction”.
Joe Biden continued to defend his decision to withdraw all American troops from Afghanistan, even after Taliban forces took Kabul and the world without images of desperate Afghans trying to flee the country.
I stand completely behind my decision,” says Biden. “After 20 years, I've learned on the hard way that it's never been a good time to withdraw American forces. ”
Biden said he and his national security team were clear to the dangers of leaving Afghanistan, and he argued last week's events demonstrate how America's continued military involvement could not eventually have supported the Afghan government.
The American president criticised Afghan government leaders for fleeing the country and Afghan troops for refusing to properly defend their country.
“The truth is, came sooner than we anticipated,” said Biden.
Beden has indicated that the Afghan government has not heard his advice, not negotiating a political solution with the Taliban.
In his address, Biden stressed that “z. Ghan insisted that Afghan forces would fight, but it turned out that he had mistaken”.
The U.S. President said he is standing by his decision to withdraw in 20 years American troops from Afghanistan.
Joe Biden argued that the failure of Afghan troops to defend their country shows why it was the right way to move forward with the withdrawal of American troops.
“It is wrong to order American troops not to leave when the Afghanistan Armed Forces will not do so,” said Beden.
Echoing his message early this year when he announced the planned withdrawal, Biden added:
How many more generations of American girls and boys would you have sent to fight the civil war in Afghanistan when Afghan troops wouldn't do that?
Biden warned that the US would take a quick and powerful response if the Taliban attacked American citizens or tried to disrupt the evacuation efforts in Kabul.
We will protect our people with devastating force, if necessary,” said Biden.
The president said that, after all evacuation efforts have been successfully completed, the US will move ahead with the completion of its withdrawal mission and “the end of America's longest war”.
“The events we see now are unfortunately evidence that no military force would ever secure a stable, united, secure,” said Biden.
I am now the fourth American president to lead the war in Afghanistan. Two Democrats and two Republicans. I will not pass this responsibility to a fifth president. ”
I am very sad about the facts we face right now, but I do not regret my decision to end America's fighting in Afghanistan, the president added. I can't and won't ask our troops to fight endlessly in another country's civil war. ”
After completing his prepared remarks, Biden left without asking any questions from reporters.
