The renowned human rights organisation Amnesty International said Tuesday that Saudi Arabia has increased the number of executions in the first part of this year after a decline as leader of the G20 Group last year.
According to this group, Saudi Arabia has executed at least 40 people from January to July of this year, which is higher than for the entire year, Reuters writes, broadcast the Express.
Saudi Arabia in 2019 executed a record 185 people, the State-backed Commission for Human Rights, said in January that this state has reduced executions by 85 percent last year, with 27 people executed.
The Amnesty International organisation said the executions continued shortly after Saudi Arabia handed over the G20 Group presidency to Italy and that nine people were executed only in December 2020.
According to the organisation, the executions were carried out following sentences that have been handed down with unfair judgments, under the shadow of torture claims during the pretrial ban, which have led to forced confessions.
Although Saudi Arabia has said it has removed the death penalty for many crimes committed by minors, Amnesty said in June a person reportedly committed violations when he was under 18 years of age was executed.
