The American Embassy in Kosovo says they are in talks with the government to see how Kosovo can help on the issue.
“We can confirm that the American government is in discussions with the Kosovo government about how Kosovo can help American partners in Afghanistan. We don't have any more details to give, for now. For additional details, we will inform you in time”, said the embassy response.
Kosovo has expressed itself ready to accommodate Afghan citizens, following communications that have started in July with American authorities.
The Kosovo government has confirmed that the issue is being dealt with carefully and, as they say, will all be closed well.
“Since mid-July we have been in constant communication and co-operation with US state and military authorities on this painful and sensitive issue. There's a lot of logistical, technical, security and social work that we're treating carefully. The United States is our main ally and our strategic partner. Everything will be wrapped up properly”, confirmed for the Express Journal, Luan Dalipi, chief of Prime Minister Albin Kurti's staff.
While Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has confirmed that the issue was contacted in July by Ambassador Costnet. To whom she immediately says, without hesitation, she has given her consent.
Osmani says it has been the request of the United States of America that this issue remain confidential for security reasons and the process of dismissing Afghan citizens.
On the other hand, Osmani says the Government of Kosovo, immediately after the request and discussion of institutional agreement, “has formed the working group that deals with organisational issues along with our American partners”.
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Sunday that Kosovo should respond positively to Afghan housing if required by the United States of America. While stressing that Albania has responded positively to American demand.
The Taliban have entered Afghanistan's capital, Kabul. American officials said diplomats were being transported to the airport to leave the country. It is also suggested that soldiers are being sent to enable evacuation of as many citizens as possible and to avoid any tragedy.
Taliban have made rapid progress in recent weeks, taking control of large parts of the territory as foreign forces, led by the US, are withdrawing from Afghanistan.
