Interior Affairs Minister Xhelal Svecla has confirmed that today the third group is expected to come with 131 citizens from Afghanistan, who will be temporarily sheltered in Kosovo.
Svechla at a media conference has said they will come at the request of the United States of America and NATO.
Also, the Minister of Internal Affairs confirmed that Afghan citizens who came to Kosovo have served for the United States and NATO during their service in Afghanistan. He said that among them are family members of people who co-operated with the US and NATO.
After the official request of the United States of America and NATO, for the temporary accommodation of Afghan citizens whose lives were threatened because they were US or NATO associates, the Kosovo government has decided to provide them with temporary housing and protection in Kosovo. In this direction, the Government of Kosovo has issued two verdicts -- the one for the provisional protection of Afghan citizens who have worked or helped the United States -- and are subject to special visa treatment for migrants and those who will be sheltered in other countries”, he has said.
He also added that last night, after midnight in Kosovo, the second group of 113 Afghan nationals arrived, later sheltered in the former “Bechtel&Enkas”, in Ferizaj.
We already have the achievement of two groups, Afghan citizens. The last one was last night after midnight, where 113 Afghan citizens, NATO collaborators and their family members have come. They have come, prosecuted according to the Laws of the Republic of Kosovo, and housed or accommodated in the former Bechtel&Enkas camp. Today we will have a new flight of 139 Afghan citizens. Once again NATO collaborators, who, as in earlier cases, will be prosecuted according to Kosovo laws”, Svechla has said further.
Minister Svechla added that none of the Afghan citizens has resulted in positive tests conducted for Codvid-19.
We don't have any Afghan nationals who have been infected by Ovid-19 or other diseases that would endanger the health of other Afghan citizens, NATO personnel or our security personnel. Their registration has been made in the database of border police. We will continue with their treatment always based on Kosovo laws”, he has said further.
