He called on crowds before the gates to go home unless they have the right to travel and said the Taliban “do not want to hurt anyone at the airport.
Corruption scenes have been reported as thousands of people try to leave the country.
Kabul Airport remains under American control, but nearby roads are guarded by the Taliban. Witnesses have reported armed members of the group preventing people, including those with documents, from entering.
