View: Multiple fires east of Russia, city covered with smoke

Large fires are continuing to spread east of Russia. The largest number of them were reported in the Yakutia region of Siberia. The forest protection agency said on Friday that about 160 forest fires, which have included an area of 4,400 square miles [4,400 sq km], are active in the isolated region, Yakutia, writes Free Europe.
Russian authorities have announced the emergency situation in the area for several days. Through fearful images published by a local news site, the regional capital, Yakutsk, is seen wrapped in dense smoke.
According to one observer, the air quality in this city is 181, the level that is considered unhealthy to man. Forest service said there is no danger of settlements or economic objects because the region is isolated.
However, local media reported that fires are near several villages and that flames have blocked several roads.
According to authorities, there are currently 336 forest - active fires on an area of 5,200 square miles [5,200 sq km] throughout Russia.
