Croatian police said that at 6:19 this morning they accepted the accident report on A3 Bregana-Lipovac Highway, in the southern lane near the town of Slavonski Brod. In the Police's statement, it has been described how the bus, with 67 passengers and two drivers, emerged from the highway.
“During the investigation, in the presence of the state attorney, police determined that the traffic accident occurred so that a 52-year-old Kosovo citizen was driving a document bus and Kosovo registration license plates in the south lane of A3 Coastan-Arway from west to east. Reaching the 211th mile of the highway, the driver did not move in the middle of the target lane, but drove the vehicle to the bar area, and then the bus crashed to its side. The members of fire brigades and other emergency teams intervened at the site of the event to take the troops of the crash”, the statement said.
In this traffic accident, 10 people died, 15 people were seriously injured, 30 more easily. The injured were transported to the regional hospital in Slavonski Brod, where they are being held for further medical treatment.
“at 10:40 a.m., the 52-year-old bus driver was arrested and, after a criminal investigation, will be handed over to the Warden of the Brod-Possava Police Administration with a criminal threat to allegedly conducting a criminal offense under Article 227 of the Penal Code to cause the traffic accident, and later to the competent state lawyer's office”, police reported.
As a result of the accident, traffic on this section of the highway was closed at 7:40 and a lane was launched at 11:35, Croatian police announced.
The driver, who was driving at the moment of the accident, admitted during the police interview that for a moment he had fallen asleep, has confirmed Deputy Municipal Prosecutor Slavko Prnjic.
According to evidence confirmed so far, it's about the bus exit on the south side of the road. The bus was travelling from Frankfurt to Pristina, transporter Deva Tours with headquarters in Pristina. The bus driver was found at the scene and arrested. An investigation has been conducted, other actions have been taken to initiate criminal procedures. The driver was arrested on suspicion of improper driving. We can't talk about the causes of getting out of the way. He said he fell asleep for a moment, but we're going to determine it all in the time of”, Projq said.
Meanwhile, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has declared it a day of mourning Monday because of this accident, which claimed the lives of 10 people -- mostly of the people who were coming from Germany for vacation in Kosovo.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, along with some of the ministers, has been headed towards Croatia, while Kosovo's Ambassador to Croatia, Gzim Kasapali, was in advance at the regional hospital in Slavonski Brod, where they are receiving treatment over 40 people who were injured by the accident on the A3 Zagreb highway dealt with Lipovac, of the Kosovo bus “Tours”, which took the lives of 10 people.
He has been seen tearful, as he has expressed condolences to the victims' families, saying they and those who were injured “are our people working in Germany”.
Croatian Civil Protection chief Damir Trut and Health Minister Willi Beross were also at the site of the tragic event where 10 people died as a result of the accident of a Kosovo bus that was coming from Frankfurt to Pristina.
After visiting the hospital in Slavonski Brod, where 45 injured sought help, Willi Beros turned to the public, showing that 15 people have been seriously injured, among whom a minor girl, reports Index.hr.
Regional hospital director Dr. Josip Samardzic said 45 people had been admitted to the hospital since morning, who had sought medical assistance after this serious accident on the highway near Slavonski Brod, and that eight of them were badly injured.
According to the Croatian medium, 24sata.hr, Kosovo bus drivers carrying exiles from Frankfurt to Pristina had been resting in Bregana for half an hour before the accident. There they had changed, and the other driver had taken the bus route. It's supposed to be because of the driver's fatigue.
One of the drivers who wasn't driving at the tragic moment is dead, while the suspect is staying at the police station.
