Antonov-type plane AN-26 was launched by regional capital, Petropavlovsk Kamchatsky, to Palana, village north of the Kamchatka Peninsula, when he lost contact with air traffic control, the Emergency Ministry said.
Citing sources, the Interfax agency reports that the plane is thought to have crashed into a rock while preparing to land in difficult circumstances of visibility, writes Reuters.
The Russian civil aviation authority confirmed that the crash site of the plane has been found after the Emergency Ministry sent a helicopter and several teams on the ground to search for the plane, which was initially said to have disappeared.
There were 22 passengers and six crew members on the plane. The TASS agency reported that among the passengers was the mayor of Palana village, Olga Mokhireva.
Air safety standards have improved in Russia in recent years, but accidents have not been very rare, especially with older aircraft.
A little over a year ago, a company plane “Saratov Airlines” crashed a few minutes after rising from Moscow. All 71 in it died.
