Speaking to Croatian firefighters who survived the bus: Nothing can prepare you for this tragedy

The commander of the Slavonski Brod Public Services Company, Ivan Vuleta and Deputy Commander, Mario Toncek, commented on the terrible accident on the A3 highway near Slavonski Brod, in which ten Kosovars remained dead after the crash of the Frankfurt-Pristina line bus. They were the first to arrive at the site of the terrible accident. First report [...]

The first record was that a bus that had gone off the highway was burning, but when we arrived at the scene we saw the fire die, but we found a terrible scene, many wounded and many dead. Our field teams immediately requested JVP assistance. In view of the entity's proximity, it came quickly”, Toncek said initially.

They immediately started to pull out passengers who didn't get out at their own initiative, with their screams and complaints, and then they started saving the stranded people who were on the bus and under the bus. The scenes are definitely not for everyone, they are severe trauma, both for the traveler and for rescue teams. Nothing can prepare you for such scenes. I don't remember such a big accident with so many fatalities and injuries”, Toncek added to rtl.hr.

Public Services Company Commander Slavonski Brod, Ivan Vuleta, said that, unfortunately, after such accidents, there is no psychological assistance for fire brigade employees.

“Although it would be good if there was a service that would respond immediately after such events that would come, they would do everything necessary with all emergency services, it is a stressful situation, and such assistance would be useful”, Vuleta said.

He himself, he said, will talk to the 12 firefighters to talk to and ask how they feel after yesterday's intervention.

Meanwhile, the 52-year-old driver has come to Croatian justice today and has been protected by silence, while the Croatian State Attorney's Office has announced that the driver was tired and unable to run the bus.
