Following a statement by Turkish President Reccep Tayip Erdogan that he along with US President Joe Biden will lobby for Kosovo recognition, media and political figures in Serbia have been alarmed.
For the former Turkish ambassador to Belgrade, Darko Tanaskovic, it is no coincidence that since Erdogan mentions lobeing at this moment”.
“It is necessary to analyse why Erdogan, who says nothing by accident, has decided to publicly announce that he will intensify the campaign for the recognition of Kosovo and in an experimental way mentions co-operation with the United States of America”, says Tanaskov, I follow Periscope.
He says that since the Biden administration started working, pressure has been mounting on states that have not recognised Kosovo, particularly those that are part of the European Union.
Greece is the best example. I believe that the recognition campaign will only intensify as Kosovo has undergone a stagnation in this direction and has even had some recognition. I think the number of recognitions before the final conclusion of what is considered an open issue will increase, and this is even being done without respect for either the minimum interest of Serbia”, he says.
However, former Serbian Ambassador to Belgrade, now analyst and professor in Serbia, does not believe that the Erdogan-Biden refugee will have a lot of success, as, as he says some states despite the powerful lobby that can be done, have their authentic attitudes and strong reasons why they cannot work for the affirmation of Kosovo state”.
We will only see how much attention will be given to Kosovo at the Biden Erdogan meeting in New York, due in September. However, we need to pay close attention to this matter”, he says. /Periscope.
