Rama: EU nationalists complicating our European journey

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama has expressed his disappointment with the Western Balkan countries' EU membership process, charging, as he put it, EU nationalism, which, according to him, is complicating European travel. It has criticised [...] during a virtual conference with other prime ministers of Western Balkan countries.
He has criticised the EU for clouding the region's membership process with other prime ministers of Western Balkan countries
I think the ongoing process has been very important to keep alive what the EU is putting out, flame of hope in the future, I think it is very important that we have more authorship in the process than it is important to combine with the Commission's increased efforts based on the new economic and investment plan. Of course, it is sad and everyone knows that already the process of European integration of the region, which was once seen and shown as the right way to subject Balkan nationalism has now become a process that is being suppressed by EU nationalism. Nationalisms in the EU are complicating our European path and are playing a lot of the opposite role with the”, Rama said.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Rama has also detailed his talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel about the EU membership process.
I would like to highlight what I had the chance to share directly with the Chancellor that it is important that we move quickly and should avoid the trap of becoming a cartoon of the EU and become victims of mutual vetos or the need for consensus. That means, we already have very clear targets. What Ursula said now is a clear picture of what it requires, the action of the common market, the economic plan and actions, and the fuller implementation of Europe's four freedoms. Albania is very obedient and will encourage as much to speed up, and we will not see a consensus at any cost for everything. We will demand full involvement in the process with all who seek to accelerate this process”, Rama said.
Prime Minister Rama has also spoken about the recent joint meeting with Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq, in which he expressed the desire for the freedom of movement of people, goods, services and capital to begin as soon as possible in the Balkans.
“With Serbia and Northern Macedonia I want to make it very clear, we have not decided to share anything, we have not decided to separate anyone, but we have just decided to walk as much as possible, repeating that everyone is welcome, but declaring that we will not wait forever. Targets and roads are clear. It is up to us to walk as much as possible, hoping that on the part of the EU they will push forward as much as possible. And here I have to say that the commission, the president of the Commission, and especially the Wahle commission, are escaping the face of the EU in the Balkans”, Rama said.
