The Kosovar Centre for the rehabilitation of Torture Survivors has said this is the first case someone is convicted of such a crime in Kosovo, by local courts.
“Today, Zoran Vukotic has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, accused of committing sexual violence crime during the war in Kosovo. This is the first case anyone is convicted of such a crime in Kosovo, by local courts. Although delayed justice, this day marks a turning moment and hope, not only for the victim who recognised the rapist and testified against him, but for all other survivors, that one day justice will be put in place”, the report says.
KRCT through the rehabilitation services it offers has empowered the survivor in its quest for justice, and has initiated the case.
“Today, justice triumphed, not only for the victim in question, but for all survivors of wartime sex violence in Kosovo. Through this new moment, survivors will be restored to hope for justice without which they will never feel at ease. Even so, The QRC considers the 10-year sentence to be low, and will be engaged in all cases of justice for Zoran Vukotic to receive the maximum” sentence, the report said.
QKRMT has invited relevant institutions and all society to do more for the achievement of justice for survivors of the wartime violence in Kosovo.
