Former Vetevendosje Movement Chairman Wisar Ymeri expresses sceptics about the government's initiative to sue Serbia for genocide, about the fact that it must be argued well and that the worst for Kosovo would be the loss of this battle.
Ymer has said that with the warning of genocide indictment against Serbia, politics is becoming.
According to him, this should not be done because the genocide indictment is one of the most important points to rewrite our history of war.
“This is not a simple issue, and in this direction I consider that the Kosovo government's warnings of genocide lawsuits from Serbia would have to be conveyed with an accurate summary or research of information so that this indictment is comprehensive and well disputed, because I think the worst for Kosovo would be to lose such a judicial battle, and that is the main point”, Ymer said.
The “is constantly done and it is not good to be doing so, and if it is done for domestic political purposes because it is a state issue and there is no more important point to rewrite our war story than the victory at this point, but can we win it here the Kosovo government is claiming it is dealing with this matter”, he added.
“ ... as far as dialogue with Serbia is concerned, they will constantly be against such a thing and they will see it as an obstacle, but I don't think they will get so much under discussion when they talk about policies that Kosovo should pursue, and one of the reasons Serbia will not be consulted at all on this issue is its behaviour in front of the crimes committed in Kosovo, and today we have a power in Belgrade that continues to deny the genocide in Srebrenica”, he told EO.
While the indictment for genocide in the dialogue will influence, Ymer added that Serbia will constantly oppose it, as the current power in Belgrade denies genocide.
I think that actually as far as I've seen, I think that Kosovo institutions have done enough in order to prepare for such a thing so to collect information, and I think that some non-governmental organisations in Belgrade have done more for the record of Serb forces in Kosovo than Kosovo institutions have done unfortunately, and in this direction I don't know what stage we are at”, he concluded.
While deputy from the AAK ranks, Pal Lekaj has said that the government must prepare for this indictment, which he is most considering as a tog of words and political game by the government.
“As far as the thought of making charges for genocide is concerned, since Kosovo has actually experienced genocide, but I think we should prepare very well and not just make a lot of words and never get involved, I think this is the government's political game”, Lekay told EO.
Lekaj says Prime Minister Albin Kurti is doing this to confuse citizens as if he is working, which, according to him, has more empty rhetoric of words than implementation of those who go in favour of citizens.
All in the end, he adds, the Government has not collected enough evidence in order to carry out the indictment properly.
And we've never seen it go to the realization of this statement. Everything has been political so far, there are more empty rhetorical words than implementation that goes in favour of citizens”, he added.
“We have not collected facts and now when the government says the word is reality, but not only to influence politics and not to carry out the indictment properly. As for the side of Kosovo, it is completely right and we should clearly say that there has been genocide in Kosovo during the Milosevic regime, but as far as the government's actions are concerned, Kurti think we are far from”.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti is determined to sue Serbia for genocide in Kosovo during his wartime mandate.
Kosovo's prime minister has included this point in his government programme, saying “the case of the genocide indictment before the International Court of Justice ( SEND) will be one of the priorities of his work during the ruling mandate”.
