French Pre-Preciative Procedure Judge at The Hague Nicholas Guillou rejected Rexhep Selim's request by Jakup Krasniqi yesterday for release from custody. In any case, by means of several prefixes, the protection of the two accused had presented one argument about why their clients were to be set free.
Just as it had happened in the case of former Prime Minister Kadri Veselin, Police Director Samedin Mehmeti, has awarded guarantees for the release of former VV President Rexhep Selimi's detention, writes news.net.
Mehmet's race concerns a certainty that Kosovo police have sufficient monitoring capacity to monitor the proposed conditions following Selim's release.
“Kosovo Police General Director confirmed that the KB “would be ready to meet all conditions if they are asked to do so by the Court.” As the Court itself knows, the Kosovo Police Director has been able to carefully review the proposed conditions, as he did earlier in connection with a joint accused. In expressing the ability of the Kosovo Police to implement the proposed conditions on behalf of Mr. Selimi, the Police Director, was clearly communicating an informed and considered decision on the issue. The defence invites the judge of the preliminary procedure to engage directly with the Police Director if any further clarification or information is required”, Rexhep Selimi's lawyer, David Young, is said to be in the lobby.
The next point in which Selimi's lawyer has been counterconfirmed with the Special Prosecutor's Office is the latter's descriptions of the “Freedom campaign, which ZPS attempted to present as proof that in case of the release of the accused there might be interference in justice.
Selimi's lawyer has underlined the fact that the authors of this campaign have clarified the fact that the same was initiated prior to the establishment of charges and that there was a reminisce of the historic events of the recent war in Kosovo.
“One of the founders of this group explained that this movement began well ahead of DSK-proposed Actacs and was created so that people would not forget the history of the conflict. Actually, neither the newspaper article itself nor the official name of the initiative “Freedom has the name” does not refer to the KLA. The SPS has incorrectly added this term in order to support its otherwise groundless” claims, Selimi's lawyer's statement says.
Young has now sharply criticised the Prosecutor's Office for the “Freedom has the name”, saying that SPS is trying to build a standard where anyone commemorating the conflict aims to help the accused improperly.
