Pope Francescu's situation after the intestinal operation is going smoothly, and he slept well and rose to walk, the Vatican said on Tuesday.
The results of routine tests were good, the Pope also ate breakfast and read some newspaper”, said Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.
The 84-year-old pope underwent a three-hour operation Sunday evening, known as the left hemisphere, a procedure in which one side of the colon is removed.
He is expected to stay at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome for seven days, for preventing any complications.
Francis scheduled the operation for July, a month in which he pauses, cancelling all public and private activities.
His only public engagements in July are his blessings Sunday at St. Peter's Square, Reuters reports, broadcast Clankosova.tv.
The Catholic hospital and Gemeli medical school in northern Rome treat popes, and part of its 10th floor is always reserved for them. It includes its intensive care unit.
It was the first time Francis had been in the hospital since his election as Pope in 2013.
