The government of Northern Macedonia in a statement to the media has suggested that the actual provisions of the Criminal Code use of cannabis is no criminal offence.

“The personal recreative use of cannabis is not a crime today, but the practice shows there is uncertainty or abuse on the ground, and we have situations where people using cannabis for personal use are accused of selling purposes” said in the Macedonian Government's statement.

According to neighbouring media, the Government is expected to expressly confirm the ongoing changes to the Penal Code with a clear statement that personal use is not a crime, namely that a person who consumes cannabis for personal recreative or medical use cannot go to jail.

The term for personal use for which legal and normial solutions are required will be necessary.
