Second meeting Kurti Vuciq ended with insults, agreeing to nothing

Kosovo and Serbia must close the chapter of the past and move forward”, the dialogue mediator, EU's overload for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said ahead of the dialogue round between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia President Aleksandar Vucinq. He hoped that the parties would be constructive and pragmatic and that it would be discussed the “steps that lead us forward”.

Kosovo and Serbia need to finally close the chapter of the painful past, with a comprehensive, legally binding agreement on normalising relations and looking towards the European future, for their citizens. The past is important, but the future is even more important”, Borrell said before the meeting.

The Fight About the Past

But the very past was what Prime Minister Kurti and Serbia's president Vuciq again slammed. So today's meeting in Brussels was much more written than planned, because the parties disagreed about almost nothing. After the talks, even serious words were heard at each other's address. Kosovo's prime minister refuses to sign the document for stability and security”, Vuciq said.

Serbia's “president is lying”, Kurti replied. Pristina's “Pala is not serious”, talks “are not difficult, but terrible”, Vuciq said. While Kurti blamed the Serbian side for genocide, underlining that Vuciq has been part of power at the time.

All this actually proves that the parties not only agreed on anything, but their positions remain diametrically opposed. Today's only agreement in Brussels was for talks to continue.

Kurti: Serbian side has rejected all

We have presented at the meeting a balanced agreement of six articles for peace between Serbia and Kosovo, which was refused without reading. Deputy Prime Minister (Bessnik) Bislimi has read the 11 points presenting obstacles in Kosovo's trade reports with other countries, which we asked to remove, but neither was this accepted by”, stressed Kurti, who, at first, expressed condolences to all victims of recent rainfall in Europe and said these talks are being held precisely on the day of the 23rd anniversary of the massacre in Rahovec, when Serb forces killed and slaughtered 150 Albanians, and 10 are still seen as found.

Cannot add “

The Kosovo side has insisted that the document discussing the found ones be introduced as well as the words " “face the past”. But neither has this request been accepted by the Serbian side, although “in a smooth form has been accepted by the mediator, Mr. Borrell”.

I don't understand why we should be so afraid of the past when we know that we have problems from the past. Only if someone, or the other side, has problems with this past” itself, Kurti stressed, adding: “It seems that Serbia's chairman sees the matter of the past too personal, Kurti stressed.

He said the atmosphere at the meeting was not much different from last meeting (15.06), where the atmosphere was very tense. But after Serbia, according to him, refused to accept the request for the phrase to be inserted into the document, face-to-face with the past, it was clear that “cannot walk before”.

As the essence of problems in reports between Kosovo and Serbia, Kurti sees the lack of recognition between these two countries. “The essence of the reports is mutual recognition Serbia must recognise Kosovo, and Kosovo Serbia. ”

Who's lying?

The signing of a document pledging that no action would be taken that would irritate the situation on the ground and jeopardise the other side has been proposed. Serbia's President Vuciq said that “Albanians in Kosovo are arming themselves and that they are wanting to create an atmosphere of uncertainty for Serbs.

Pristina's <x0). Autorities want Serbs not to feel safe”, he stressed. Vuciq claims it was Prime Minister Kurti who has refused to sign this document, which according to him is evidence “that the new authorities in Pristina want to create an atmosphere of uncertainty for Serbs in Kosovo”.

This is a lie. The one who told you this, likely the president of Serbia, has lied to you. That's a lie. He's lying”, Kurti stressed. “We have requested that words of peace and security enter this document, not just the word stability. The reason we haven't signed this document today is that the Serbian side didn't want the word confrontation with the past”, Kurti stressed.

Vuciq: Pristina side talks only about the past

As never before, Serbia's president stood all the time just 1015m away, during the time Kurti made the statement before reporters. Kurti also spoke long in the Serbian language, about the past, crimes and genocide. While Vuciq later gave several more interviews to the Serbian media, among other things, it said that “these talks are not difficult, but they are terrible”. He said the Kosovo side is oriented by the past, while the Serb side from the future. When talking about meeting the past, we should also talk about crimes against Serbs”, Vucqi said.

But both Kurt and Vuciq both said they are willing to continue the dialogue, and both claimed they are constructive.

The next meeting at the delegation level will be held in late August, while the third round will be held in September, Kurti Vuciq.
