Lajcak: The meeting was difficult, we achieved very little progress

Miroslav Lajcak, EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue, has praised the second meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq with very little progress. Lajcak, who along with senior EU representative Joseph Borrell, were part of this meeting, said the two delegations discussed several concrete proposals, but the only result he can report is that dialogue will continue.
“Takim was held just a month after their first meeting within dialogue here in Brussels. The meeting was difficult and demonstrated the two sides' very different approaches to normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia. As a result, we achieved very little progress today. Several concrete proposals were discussed, but the only result I can report today is that dialogue will continue”, he said.
The sides agreed that key negotiators will hold monthly-based meetings brokered by the European Union to address current issues and prepare high-level meetings when appropriate.
Moreover, the two leaders agreed to meet again in September. For us, the European Union, it is important to underline that the European future for Serbia and Kosovo depends on the normalisation of their relations. Therefore, we expect both sides to work together to overcome the past and resolve all unresolved issues between them”, Lajcak said after the Kurti-Vuchic meeting.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Kurti said he has submitted a peace agreement but has been rejected by Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, still unread.
Meanwhile, Serbian President Vuciq also accused Kurti of returning to the 19th century. /Telegraphy/
