The president of the United States of America, Joe Biden, has nominated the new US ambassador to Kosovo, which will be Jeff Havenier.
The new ambassador, Havenier, currently serves as deputy head of the US Embassy in Turkey. Previously, as a diplomat, he had also worked in Berlin, Germany, but also in Croatia, Greece, Panama, Paraguay and Peru.
Hovenier knows Kosovo well because during his diplomatic career he was part of the United Nations Special Envoy's staff for Kosovo status.
From Washington he had served as director for Central and Southeast Europe at the National Security Council, as well as at the State Department Bureau, for European and Eurasian affairs responsible for NATO and Central Europe
Hovnier is the winner of the State Department performance awards and holds government honours from the Republic of Kosovo. He grew up in Bellingham, Washington and has a Master's degree at Georgetown University and a Bachelor degree at Brigham Young University. He speaks German and Spanish and has studied Greek and Croatian.
He's married to Laura Williams Havenier. They have four grown children.
