The prisoner named Abdullatif Nasser, is in his 50 ' s and received permission to return in July 2016. But he remained in Guantanamo during Donald Trump's presidency.
It was then declared by authorities that keeping Nasser was necessary to protect US national security, reports Guardian, Periscopi.
Nasser's transfer could mean that Joe Biden is making efforts to reduce the number of prisoners in Guantanamo, currently 39.
George W Bush and Barack Obama had supported the process of transferring prisoners, but this process was banned at Trump's time.
Trump had declared that there would be no concessions from Guantanamo, or “Gitmo” as he called it.
These are very dangerous people and should not be allowed back on the battlefield,” he said.
