Tehran himself briefed the international body on the new move, which he said aims to develop fuel for a research reactor, the BBC writes, broadcast Express newspaper.
Officials from Germany, France and Britain said this move by the Islamic Republic could jeopardise talks on the revival of the 2015 nuclear agreement, while the United States said it is a unfortunate step back.
Under the 2015 agreement, Iran would have restrictions on its nuclear programme in exchange for removing economic sanctions from the West.
Former US President Donald Trump removed the United States from this agreement in 2018 and reduced sanctions against Iran to power. Iran retaliated with violations of agreement provisions and enriching uranium.
So far, President Biden's administration has also kept sanctions against Iran in force, but an American delegation and representatives of other world powers are holding talks with Iran in Vienna in an effort to return to the agreement.
Iran's newly elected president, Ebrahim Reis, wants the United States to take the first step by removing sanctions, while the US says Iran must first return to implement the agreement in order to remove punitive measures later.
