Haitian President Jovenel Moise has been killed in an attack on his private residence, according to a statement by interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph.
He said the president's settlement in Port-au-Prince was attacked by unidentified armed men at 0100 with local time (05:00 GMT).
The First Lady was also reportedly injured in the attack.
Joseph said that “all measures were taken to ensure the continuation of the state”.
Jovenel Moïse, 53, was in power since February 2017, after his predecessor at the office, Michel Martelli, left the post.
Mr. Chairman. Moise was difficult after he faced corruption charges and was challenged by the waves of often violent anti-government protests.
