Imam Maliqi, who heads the mosque “Bender Kamberi” at the Pristina Hospital Lagen, said he hopes this will not be the last meeting of this format.
According to him, the festival of Kurban Bajrami means drawing close to God.
The sacrifice itself means sacrificing something in order to draw close to God. The festival of Kurban Bajrami is celebrated for many centuries on our lands. It is a holiday that a believer not only celebrates with Muslims, but it is a festival that we would like to invite people of other faiths”, Maliqi said.
The United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Phlilip Costet, said the presence of different faiths at this lunch laid down by imami Maliqi, is a clear message for religious tolerance in Kosovo.
I'm not here to give a speech and talk about international issues, I'm here at the invitation of the Maliqi imam. It is a great honor for me to be surrounded by brothers and sisters, believers, on this holiday. Thank God and remember all the things that unite us”, Costnet said.
Also present at this meeting were representatives of the Catholic Church in Kosovo and representatives of the Orthodox Church.
“As is the popular word ʹwhen joy is shared, we want to share this holiday joy with all believers in the Islamic community who today celebrate Kurban Bayram”, said Don Michel Sopi, from the Kosovo Catholic Church.
In addition to religious leaders, representatives of the Kosovo Police and the Ombudsman, Naim Celaj, were present.
This is the fourth Bayram to be marked in pandemic conditions.
Hundreds of believers today pardoned the holiday inside and outside the Great Mosque in Pristina.
The previous day, Kosovo mufti Naim Ternava called on citizens to be cautious and to respect anti-commerciral measures.
