In addition to emergency assistance to the affected region, Schelz, who is also a candidate of Social Democrats for Chancellors in the upcoming September elections, announced that long-term assistance for the affected region will be discussed at a regular government session next week.

He announced that the first aid would now be paid during July and that reconstruction aid would be provided during the year.
“Rugs and bridges must be repaired quickly”, he stressed.
Economy Minister Peter Altmayer promised entrepreneurs in the affected areas a constant assistance of 10,000 euros each.
The government had earlier announced that it could meet the needs of the affected even in the form of tax reliefs. The death toll rose to 156 in the affected areas, where heavy rainfall caused rivers to be filled out of bed.
