German ambassador rejects Serbian journalist: EU, US show soft on Kosovo

Germany's ambassador to Belgrade, Thomas Schieb, does not think the EU and the US are being gentle with the Kosovo side. He has said that despite the outcome of parliamentary elections in Germany in September, there will be no substantial changes in Germany's policy towards Serbia. Scheib séu agreed with Serbian media journalist “Kurir” (the media close to Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq), when he asked whether the EU and the US are being gentle towards Kosovo.
We expect both sides to approach these negotiations constructively and we are clearly informing authorities, both in Belgrade and Pristina. Of course, it is important to have a certain level of mutual trust on both sides. That's why it's good that President (Alexander) Vuciq and Prime Minister (Albin) Kurt met individually”, Schieb said.
He stressed that it is important for both sides to respect the principle of agreement and implementation.
Asked about the possibility of Russia's involvement in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, the German ambassador recalled that the United Nations has authorised the EU to mediate in dialogue and stressed that Americans confirmed their readiness to support this process under EU mediation.
The “would be good for positive signals to arrive also from Moscow”, he said.
Schieb also referred to the show of many “no-papers” regarding the Western Balkans and stressed that Germany's position is clear ʹ there are no border changes because, as he said, this would create additional problems instead of resolving existing ones, which would result in dangerous destabilisation of the region.
The sometimes emotionally conducted discussion about the so-called “non-paps” of undefined origin is appropriate to turn attention away from important topics that represent a challenge, and that is improving regional co-operation and reconciliation with countries around”, the German ambassador said.
